the part-time jungle

Hi, I’m Tiana

I’m a married mom of three boys ages 13, 11, and 8. I live in Calgary, Alberta. I am addicted to coffee and popcorn and getting up at 5 AM on weekdays to ensure that I have my “me time”, which involves a swim at a local pool or a workout in the basement. I enjoy volunteering at the kiddos’ schools, cheering on my two oldest boys at their hockey games, and practicing piano with my youngest son. I love traveling with my family, which can range from month-long camping trips exploring incredible places like Zion, Utah, and Yellowstone or even a summer adventure through Germany. Time with my mom-friends, usually while the kids play, maintains my sanity in knowing that I am not alone and that we are all in this together. The growth of these friendships has resulted in almost too many traditions to fit into a year and the most incredible experiences and memories. The village mentality, involving both family and friends, has made all the difference through all of the ups and downs and in-betweens of motherhood.

Tiana Fech has her Bachelor’s of Science (BSc) degree from Trent University, her Master of Teaching (BEd) degree from the University of Calgary, and her Master’s of Education (MEd) degree from Gonzaga University. For her Master’s degree, Tiana’s keystone project focused on a personal passion area of new teacher mentorship and she feels incredibly privileged for the opportunity to work with student teachers as a sessional and field experience instructor at the University of Calgary in the Werklund School of Education. Tiana has worked in the field of Education in a variety of capacities including as a classroom teacher in both Junior High and High School, a Curriculum Developer, and as an Early Learning Coordinator overseeing the programs for and providing support to young children with developmental delays.

Tiana has been navigating the world of part-time work since becoming a mom. She realized that the options of going back to work full-time or being a stay at home mom weren’t for her and her family. She needed to find her place somewhere in between. Tiana has had success finding amazing part-time work opportunities by putting herself out there, networking, hustling hard, thinking outside of the box, and telling anybody who will listen what her “ideal” job would be. Her journey, with all of the challenges and successes, inspired her to create The Part-Time Jungle as a means to build a community of support for moms who work part-time or who want to work part-time and to connect moms with meaningful part-time work opportunities that align with their passions, skills, experience, education, talents, and family juggles to navigate the adventure of “swinging motherhood and work” together!
